Johner Estate 

Karl Johner and his son Patrick have dedicated their whole lives to high quality wine making. After building up a prestigious and world acclaimed Estate in  their homeland of Germany, their passion for great Pinot Noir brought them to New Zealand, where they fell in love with the Wairarapa region and the wines.

It is a great advantage to be able to pick and make wine twice a year in two different regions, each with their own environmental characteristics. With the close proximity to the European Market and with the big Burgundian Idols in mind, the wines are not the typical New Zealand pungent fruit, but have more a conservative European style with many layers of fruit, great depth, and complex structure lingering on and on.

The main vineyard at the end of Dakins Road offers a traditional  tasting room, showcasing a wide range of varieties from Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay to Pinot Gris. We also specialize in producing sweet Dessert Wines, and are well known both nationally and internationally for these.
