Lynfer Estate
Lynfer Estate is a family owned boutique vineyard committed to producing single-vineyard wines of integrity. The vineyard was established in 2000 with proven varieties and clones of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir vines. The 11 hectare site was carefully selected for its free draining stony silt loam soils, low annual rainfall, and the regions long summer months of warm days and cool nights - the hallmark for producing world class cool climate wines.
Vines are close planted in 2 metre rows on a vertical shoot positioning trellis which allows excellent exposure of the fruit to sunlight, a requisite for premium quality wines in a cool climate region. Fruit has been harvested and supplied to two local wineries since 2003, some making its way into award winning wines. The vineyard began producing wine under the Lynfer Estate label in 2009.
The development of Lynfer Estate has been a journey for its owners, David and Coleen Boyd, which began when they immigrated to New Zealand from Northern Ireland and the Falkland Islands in 1988. Like so many migrants before them, drawn by the allure of opportunities in this clean green land.
